Treasures and Finds

Enjoy the ‘shopper’s high’ of finding and buying originals

The-Poisoned-Pen

That special antique, gift or home accessory that no one else has is a true find. Several retail shops in our vicinity are known for their original pieces; whether it be a book, a trinket, a piece of furniture or a work of art, some local shop owners pride themselves on finding the more unique items to keep customers coming and to offer the sophisticated shopper precious and unique items that become all their own.

Cornelia Park, located in Biltmore Fashion Park, is perhaps best known as the premier purveyor of unique works of MacKenzie-Childs — the time-honored name in home furnishings and ceramics, handmade on a small farm in rural New York. From plates to planters, these originals are art-inspired pieces that say individuality.

Designer and owner French Thompson showcases the wearable works of more than 30 world-acclaimed artists in his jewelry store, French Designer Jeweler, in Old Town Scottsdale. Unique and timeless pieces made of precious metals and gemstones are presented for tastes ranging from the whimsical to the mystical — and even some traditional.

A treasured book or one-of-a-kind signed edition is a unique gift for the discerning collector. The Poisoned Pen owner Barbara Peters opened the independent bookstore in Old Town Scottsdale’s arts district in 1989 specializing in current and classic works of mystery, suspense, historical and literary fiction, and literature of the American Southwest. Many of the books on its shelves are autographed first editions and imports.

For the whole family — kids in particular — Garage Boutique is a fun place to shop for original and one-of-a-kind items for kids (of all ages). Toys, baby gifts, crafts, clothing and other unique and even quirky gift ideas are on hand in this exciting boutique. While there, remember a bygone era with retro games and candies that will introduce your young ones to products of the past.
