Scottsdale Fashion Square Gets Bigger (and Better)Continues to be a destination shopping experience
Driving by Scottsdale Fashion Square any time in the past year, you may have noticed an array of construction equipment and “coming soon” signs. These vague signs have been foreshadowing big plans in store for Fashion Square.
We recently saw the opening of the first of Fashion Square’s two major renovations: a Dick’s Sporting Goods store. This massive, 50,000-square-foot addition constitutes a whole new wing for the mall. Dick’s adds not only size but also variety, as the mall, previously, did not have any sort of sporting goods store. Already considered a mecca of shopping, dining and entertainment in Scottsdale, Fashion Square now serves the needs of another Valley demographic — the sports enthusiast.
The other major change is Harkins Theatres, which will unveil its new 14-screen movie theater the first part of December. This state-of-the-art theater will house nine screens for independent films and five for blockbuster films, replacing both Harkins Camelview (located on Goldwater under the shadow of the mall’s second-level bridge over the street) and Harkins 7 (located at one end of the mall’s the food court). Additionally, the new Harkins Theatres at Scottsdale Fashion Square will include a lobby lounge with patio seating.
“Scottsdale Fashion Square’s prime location and ideal retailer mix continues to be a positive impact for the local community,” says Christina Lanoue, assistant vice president and property manager of Scottsdale Fashion Square.
Did You Know
Scottsdale Fashion Square was an original Valley hub for exclusive retail when it opened in 1961 as an open-air shopping mall anchored by Goldwater’s and A.J. Bayless, two home-grown retail chains. This elite corner has changed through expansion in 1982, 1991, 1998, 2009 and, finally, its most recent expansion this year. A great resource is the mall’s concierge services, which can assist guests in finding unique items, events and answers to other special needs for locals and visitors alike.
