Brunching Out!

Midday eats and drinks that have it all

LON’s at the Hermosa Inn

To brunch is to say that you are going to truly indulge in a mid-morning/mid-day meal that can include everything from bacon (the all-important staple) to gourmet Bloody Mary’s to carving stations of prime rib — and just about everything in-between, depending on where you go.

Well, this vicinity is chock-full of opportunities to graze, guzzle and galivant. Way atop the small hill in the center of the Arizona Biltmore is the Wrigley Mansion, where Geordie’s Restaurant is the place to be. In addition to views of nearly the entire Valley, this old, Spanish-style mansion built in the 1930s is home to a brunch that is more than memorable. James Beard Award-winning chef Christopher Gross is in charge. His take on the elegant and culinary experience guests will have has influenced the menu and made brunch at Geordie’s world-class.

The made-to-order omelet station means building whatever you like for a fluffy and flavorful egg dish. Across the room is the prime rib and leg of lamb carving station — unique to Phoenix — where one can enjoy all the fixings to go along with the meats. Included in the price are Mimosas, champagne by the glass and wine. It is truly a midday experience that makes brunch exactly what you want.

6 Degrees Urban Kitchen

On the other side of our vicinity is Six Degrees Urban Kitchen. Located in the Shops at Gainey Ranch, this is a brunch-lovers haven. Very crowded and fun and fancy, this urban hotspot almost always has a long wait — but fear not. Here is one of the most extensive self-serve Bloody Mary bars that exists. Nearly a buffet in and of itself, this abundant bar is the perfect time-filler while you wait for your table. From shrimp and sausage spears to every veggie known to man, it offers patrons everything to make the perfect drink/hors d’oeuvre before the big meal.

Partake in the apple-pie pancakes. They are somewhat sweet, but worth the calories given the warm butter and piping hot syrup available to dowse them in. Guests come from all over the Valley to try the Chilaquiles Verdes and Rojos. One red and one green, this dish is made with braised chicken, radish, cilantro, queso fresco and crème fraîche and is served on crispy tortilla chips.

For the full Arizona effect, LON’s at the Hermosa is brunch at its all-time best. This Santa Fe-style hideaway boutique hotel offers up an indigenous brunch at its namesake restaurant that connoisseurs from all over the world relish. We are home to it. Right here in Paradise Valley.

Geordie’s at the Wrigley Mansion

After your serving of the Monkey Bread, you’ll have many choices for your main entrée that include the Huevos Rancheros, made with fry bread and black beans. On the sweeter side is the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which will melt in your mouth and force a return visit — or a second order.

The Hacienda Brunch for two is a special at Lon’s that cannot be passed up. It includes a starter, choice of two entrées and two featured beverages that range from the Kombucha or an array of Marys (that’s Bloody Marys). This little package will only add to the incredible atmosphere of this retreat, whether you sit inside or outside. The extensive and quaint patio is just perfect at certain times of year.

Brunch is a great time to convene with family and friends over the weekend. We are home to a fun and flavorful variety of options right here in our vicinity. From patios to fascinating décor to diner-like settings, Arcadia, Paradise Valley and Old Town can offer up experiences that can make brunch a verb: brunching.
